Steer: "Student Tracking for the Evaluation of E-learning Resources"

Valuable information about the way that e-learning resources are used in practice may be obtained by tracking the way that users interact with online materials. This type of data can be helpful in future course design, by providing useful pointers about what works and what is less successful.

The Steer project runs during 2005/06 and will track and compare the use of online resources for a number of different courses from across the University of Edinburgh. These courses all make extensive use of e-learning material within the University's VLE WebCT. They include:

This work follows on from the eLT (e-Learner Tracking) project, in which software was developed to track, analyse and display the use of online materials. These tools were applied to the course "Physics 1A:Foundations" in 2004/05. The eLT web site also includes a demonstration of the prototype visualisation tools.
