XML, XML-Schema and WSDL namespaces and types
are the foundations of WSDL and OGSA. OGSA extends the concept of web
services to the Grid by proposing a flexible, extensible architecture
able to meet the needs of all potential Grid users, from e-Scientists
to commercial businesses.
Support for discovery of XML Schemas relevant to eScience, and
provision of new or extended Schemas, is the remit of WP5 of
OGSA-DAI. We believe that by taking a lead now in this
activity, it is one the UK can make its own over the coming years.
EPCC's work in WP5 has divided into two key areas:
- Building and maintaining a Schema
Repository to provide an access point for eScientists seeking
XML Schemas to assist them in their work.
- Developing BinX, a metadata schema for
describing binary files.
